TL;DR

  • The West Indies secured a modest lead after the first day of play was heavily disrupted by persistent rainfall.
  • Hodge provided the backbone of the Caribbean batting effort, showcasing composure against a probing opening spell.
  • The weather delay has shifted the tactical balance, forcing the opposition to rethink their bowling rotations for Day 2.

West Indies Seize Early Momentum Amidst Weather Woes

The heavens opened up over the ground today, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the West Indies faithful. In a day defined by grey skies and soggy outfields, the Caribbean side managed to carve out a position of strength. While the rain effectively truncated the first day’s proceedings, the narrative remains firmly in favor of Hodge and his teammates. They didn’t just survive the early moisture; they looked like they were looking to dominate the pace of the game from the very first ball.

Hodge walked to the crease with a clear objective: stabilize the innings and blunt the initial aggression of the opposition. He did exactly that, playing with a level of maturity that has often been missing from the middle order in recent fixtures. His ability to leave the ball outside off-stump saved the West Indies from unnecessary pressure during the first hour. By refusing to be bullied by the short stuff, he allowed his partners to rotate the strike effectively.

Hodge’s Technical Mastery Under Pressure

What stood out most was Hodge’s footwork. He isn’t just a “block and defend” type of batsman; he found gaps in the field with surgical precision. When the bowlers tried to widen their line, he leaned into the drive. It wasn’t about reckless boundary hitting—it was about accumulation. His strike rate remained steady, ensuring that the scoreboard kept ticking even when the bowling side was finding its rhythm.

The opposition clearly struggled to find a consistent length. Every time they thought they had found a “corridor of uncertainty,” Hodge seemed to adjust his stance or your head
